Data set selection

Sorry, I am confused about the menu tabs on page once I have queried for a particular gene. In the upper right in the window there is a title “Dataset” after which there are two separate tabs for selecting datasets. I don’t understand the purpose of the two different tabs, and things happen to both when I change either one. I have looked through the Data selection documentation and can’t find any explanation of the purpose of these two menu tabs. Some things have changed since the last time in used the database clearly. Thanks in advance!

Hi Mark,

The left tab on the menu shows the datasets that we have available for short variants, whereas the tab on the right shows datasets that we have for structural variants and copy number variants. Only one dataset can be selected at a time, which will be indicated by a gray background in the menu tab. If you have further questions please let us know.

Regards,
Kristen

Thanks for the explanation, somehow it wasn’t clear to me from the instructions and the documentation. If others are having the same problem, it might be worth updating that page to indicate the difference between the right and left hand dropdown menus.

Thanks for the feedback! I agree that the current help text on dataset selection doesn’t really shed much light on the mechanics of the dropdown menu itself. I’ve created an issue to track improvements to that: Improvements to the help text for dataset selector mechanics · Issue #1330 · broadinstitute/gnomad-browser · GitHub

Thank you for the feedback, Mark. Would adding labels above the drop downs be helpful as suggested here? Improvements to the help text for dataset selector mechanics · Issue #1330 · broadinstitute/gnomad-browser · GitHub
